DOJ AND WEB ACCESSIBILITY

DOJ announced 2/3 that it reached settlement agreements under Title I of the ADA with the cities of DeKalb, Illinois;Vero Beach, Florida; Fallon, Nevada; and Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Under the settlement agreements, each cityagrees not to conduct any medical examinations or make disability-related inquiries of job applicants before aconditional offer of employment is made. It again asks local governments to make its online employmentopportunities website and job applications conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, whichare industry guidelines for making web content accessible.

This trending topic will again be explored further at the Association’s Spring 2015 conference in Tampa.
